Power Operated Vehicles (POV) – also known as a Scooter is one of the best options for personal mobility outside of your home.

Scooters are the only portable device that insurance will cover, although they will not cover it for only outdoor usage.

Insurance will also not cover equipment that is made specifically for outdoor use.

My doctor wrote a prescription.  Will I receive my equipment today?

Most people think once they have seen their practitioner and an order is written the powered mobility device will be ordered immediately. This is not the case. Paperwork must be completed and gathered from multiple sources then submitted for Prior Approval from your insurance provider.

Insurance covers equipment based off of medical necessity and all items that go through insurance must be on Medicare’s PDAC for it to be eligible.  POVs are broken down by weight limit, 0-300, 300-450, 450+.

It is possible to upgrade your equipment above and beyond what Insurance will cover at your own expense, the upgrade fee ranging on the type of equipment you would like.

It is important to note that the upgraded item must still be on the PDAC, and must fulfill all functions the standard item would.
